[인도] 뭄바이시, 물재사용 계획 포함해 폐수시설 확장

자문회사인 블랙앤비치(Black & Veatch)는 뭄바이 지방자지단체(Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai, MCGM)를 도와 도시 폐수처리시설을 확장할 계획이라고 밝혔다.

블랙앤비치는 84만7천㎥/일 규모의 말라드 존(Malad Zone) 폐수처리시설에 대한 타당성조사에 착수하고 상세한 프로젝트 보고서를 준비하여 문서를 제출할 예정이다. 프로젝트가 시행되면 인도 최대규모의 시설이 될 것으로 기대된다.

계약의 일부로 블랙앤비치는 해안 오염을 완화시킬 수 있는 최신형 폐수 처리시설을 설계할 예정이며, 향후 환경적 편익은 물재사용을 통해 성취될 것이다. 폐수는 뭄바이의 수자원에 대한 압박을 감소시키는 한편, 식수 외의 용도로 처리될 예정이다.

프로젝트의 일환으로 블랙앤비치는 말라드의 대형 폐수처리시설을 만들기 위한 대안으로써 Gorai, Vallabh Nagar, Charkop, Shimpoli,Goregaon and Malad IPS 등 다섯 개의 인공 펌프장에서 사용되는 공간의 가능성을 평가할 것이다. 회사에 따르면 이러한 접근은 물재사용 시설들로부터 분포를 간소화할 수 있다.

이 프로젝트를 진행하는 이유 중의 하나는 중앙 오염 통제 이사회(Central Pollution Control Board)에 의해 고안된 새로운 이행 기준들을 따르기 위해서로, 블랙앤비치는 이십 년 이상 MCGM와 함께 협업했다.

Greater Mumbai’s wastewater expansion to include reuse plans

Consultancy Black & Veatch will help the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) to expand wastewater treatment facilities (WWTF) in the city.

Black & Veatch will undertake a feasibility study, and prepare a detailed project report and tender document, for the proposed 847,000 m3/day Malad Zone WWTF. The project, once commissioned, will be India’s largest.
 
As part of the contract, the company will design a modern WWTF to mitigate coastal pollution.

Further environmental benefits will be achieved through water reuse; wastewater will be treated for non-potable applications, reducing the stress on Mumbai’s water resources.

As part of the project, Black & Veatch will assess the possibility of using space at five satellite pumping stations - at Gorai, Vallabh Nagar, Charkop, Shimpoli, Goregaon and Malad IPS - for WWTFs, as an alternative to creating a single, large WWTF at Malad.

This approach would simplify distribution from the water reuse facilities, according to the firm.

One of the reasons for the project is compliance to new discharge standards revised by the Central Pollution Control Board.

Black & Veatch has worked with MCGM for more than two decades.
