[일본] 아사히 카세이, 캐나다 온타리오주 리튬이온 배터리 분리막 플랜트 건설 발표

연간 약 7억㎥ 규모 LiB 분리막 용량 설치 위해 약 1천800억엔 투자 발표

인베스트 온타리오 통해 프로젝트 지원 받아…청정기술 제조업 투자 세액공제 혜택 보장

아사히 카세이(Asahi Kasei)는 5월 15일 캐나다 온타리오주(Ontario) 나이아가라(Niagara) 지역에 있는 포트 콜본(Port Colborne)에 통합 리튬이온 배터리 분리막 플랜트(Integrated Lithium-ion Battery Separator Plant)를 건설한다고 밝혔다. 

새로운 제조시설은 '아사히 카세이 배터리 분리막 캐나다(Asahi Kasei Battery Separator Canada)로 운영될 예정이며, 제조 및 건설 분야에서 고숙련·고임금 일자리를 창출할 것으로 예상된다. 상업적 생산은 2027년 시작할 것으로 예정돼 있다.

쿠도 코시로(Koshiro Kudo) 아사히 카세이 사장 겸 대표이사는 "전기 자동차와 이를 구동하는 리튬이온 배터리에 대한 수요가 계속 증가함에 따라 우리는 최초의 히포레 습식 공정 리튬이온 분리막 제조시설(Hipore™ Wet-process Lithium-ion Separator Manufacturing Facility)을 캐나다에 도입하기를 열망하고 있다"며 "포트 콜본의 풍부한 재생 가능 자원과 숙련된 인재, 지역사회의 강력한 지원을 바탕으로 이번 플랜트를 통해 북미 자동차 시장뿐 아니라 이 지역 파트너에게 더 나은 서비스를 제공할 수 있을 것"이라고 말했다.

포트 콜본 플랜트에서 생산되는 히포레™ 습식 공정 분리기는 EV 및 기타 에너지 저장 응용 분야에 사용되는 LiB(Lithium-ion Battery)의 중요한 구성요소다. 

아세히 카세히는 지난 4월 25일 새로운 플랜트에 연간 약 7억㎥ 규모의 히포레™ 분리막 용량을 설치하기 위해 약 1천800억 엔(약 15억6천만 캐나다 달러)을 투자한다고 발표했다.

아세히 카세히는 온타리오주 정부로부터 투자 유치 기관인 인베스 온타리오(Invest Ontario)를 통해 프로젝트 지원을 받을 예정이며, 연방 정부의 새로운 청정기술 제조업 투자 세액공제(Clean Technology Manufacturing Investment Tax Credit, ITC) 혜택을 받게 된다.

Asahi Kasei Announces Port Colborne, Ontario, Canada as Location of Future Lithium-ion Battery Separator Plant

Asahi Kasei announced today that it will construct its previously announced integrated lithium-ion battery (LIB) separator plant in Port Colborne, which is in the Niagara region of Ontario, Canada.

The new manufacturing facility will operate as Asahi Kasei Battery Separator Canada and is expected to create highly skilled, good paying jobs in manufacturing and construction. The start of commercial production is currently slated for 2027.

Koshiro Kudo, President & Representative Director of Asahi Kasei Corporation, who attended for the location announcement event, stated, “As demand for electric vehicles – and the lithium-ion batteries that power them – continues to rise, we are eager to bring the first Hipore™ wet-process lithium-ion separator manufacturing facility to Canada. Backed by the abundant renewable resources, skilled talent and strong local community support here in Port Colborne, we will be able to better serve our partners in the region as well as the broader North American automotive market from this facility.”

The Hipore™ wet-process separators to be produced at the Port Colborne facility are among the most highly engineered and critical components of LIBs used in EVs and other energy storage applications.

On April 25, 2024, Asahi Kasei announced an initial investment of approximately 180 billion JPY (CAD$ 1.56 billion) to install approximately 700 million square meters of annual Hipore™ separator capacity at this new Canadian facility.

Asahi Kasei will receive support for the project from the provincial government of Ontario, through its investment attraction agency, Invest Ontario, and will benefit from the federal government’s new Clean Technology Manufacturing Investment Tax Credit (ITC).
