Saudi Arabia launches two wastewater projects for $33.6 million

HRH Prince Faisal bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the province of Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah (Medina) in western Saudi Arabia, has announced the implementation of two wastewater infrastructure projects in the Governorate of Yanbu, by the Red Sea, reports Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing Middle East. Together, the projects are worth more than $33.6 million.

The first one involves the construction of sewage networks and household connections, at a cost of about $25.33 million, and will benefit more than 57,000 people.

It includes improvements to the sewage system in the areas of Al-Mashhad, Al Bandar, and Al Sumairi.

Eng. Ayman bin Yusuf Yamani, Head of the northwestern sector of the National Water Company, has said the planned project will increase sanitation standards, as well as repair drainage systems that have been damaged.

The second project will see the construction of a wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 6,000 cubic metres per day, to benefit more than 25,000 people, announced the official Saudi Press Agency.

With a project cost of about $8.27 million, the treatment works is planned according to approved standards, using technologies that will allow reusing the treated water for purposes such as industrial and agricultural.

According to Mr Yamani, the wastewater treatment plant in Yanbu is built to ensure a balanced development in all governorates in the province of Medina, and meet the needs of a growing urban population.
