[미국] 에너지부, 켄터키 지역에 저렴한 에너지 확장 및 AI 미래 지원 기념 발표

5개 기업과 데이터센터 건설 및 전력공급 보호…

에너지부 소유에 데이터센터 신뢰… 건설일자리 8천개·일자리 600개 창조

미 에너지부(Department of Energy)는 브룩 필드(Brookfield), 넥스트에라 에너지(NextEra Energy), 빅 리버스 일렉트릭 파워 코퍼레이션(Big Rivers Electric Power Corporation), 캐스팅 퍼체이스 에너지 코퍼레이티브(Jackson Purchasing Energy Cooperative), 파두카 시스템(Paducah Power System)과 함께 에너지부 소유의 파두카 부분을 데이터센터로 재개발하고 새로운 경제적인 에너지를 사용하고 있습니다. 

1천억 달러(약142조5천700억 원가) 원래 견딜자본이 참여하는 이번 투자는 켄터키 반대 최대 크기 중 하나, 약 8천개의 건설 투쟁과 600개의 표준직 대우를 창출할 것을 예상하고, 2031년을 계속할 예정입니다.

트럼프 대통령의 '납세자 보호 약(Ratepayer Protection Pledge)'에 따라, 이 프로젝트의 발전 및 저장 냄비는 지퍼의 에너지 수요를 미국 초과해 여신여 전력을 지역망으로 공급함으로써 가정과 기업의 에너지 비용에 빠지게 할 계획이다.

넥스트에라 에너지는 파두카 그라운드(GW) 크기의 신규 및 관계형 천연 가스 덩어리를 구축하고, 기존 송전 변환을 개선하며, 최대 2.6GW 크기의 배터리 에너지 생성을 확장하여 1.8GW 크기의 인공 지원 및 인공 지원을 합니다.

크리스 라이트(Chris Wright) 미 에너지부 장관은 "트럼프 대통령 덕분에 미국 정부는 연방 토지와 같은 자산을 활용하여 발전량을 늘리고, 일자리를 창출하며, 미국이 인공지능 경쟁에서 승리할 수 있도록 노력하고 있다"면서 "대통령의 납세자 보호 서약은 미국 가정과 기업의 전기 요금을 낮추는 동시에 인공지능 혁명에 필요한 에너지 인프라를 구축할 수 있도록 보장한다. 에너지부의 옛 부지들을 혁신과 경제 성장의 동력으로 탈바꿈시킴으로써, 세수 증대와 수천 개의 일자리 창출로 지역 사회를 활성화하는 동시에 미국의 에너지 안보를 강화할 수 있다"고 말했다.

앤디 바(Andy Barr) 켄터키 주 공화당 하원의원은 "파두카에 대한 1천억 달러 규모의 민간 투자 유치는 역사적인 사건"이라며서 "이 투자를 강력히 지지하는 지역 및 주 정부 관계자들과 이야기를 나눈 후, 직접 장관께 이 프로젝트가 실현될 수 있도록 적극적으로 요청했다. 민간 부문 파트너들과 함께하는 이번 투자는 일자리를 창출하고 에너지 안보를 강화하며, 파두카와 켄터키 주에 향후 수십 년간 지속적인 경제 성장을 가져다줄 것"이라고 말했다.

이 프로젝트는 미국 에너지부(DOE)의 '미국 에너지 허브' 이니셔티브를 진전시키는 것으로, DOE 소유 부지를 저렴한 에너지 생산, 첨단 제조, 기술 혁신 및 경제 성장의 중심지로 탈바꿈시키는 것을 목표로 한다. 포츠머스 부지에서 발표된 파트너십 모델을 기반으로 하는 파두카 부지 파트너십은 연방 정부, 주 정부, 지방 정부 및 민간 부문의 협력이 어떻게 투자를 가속화하고 주변 지역사회에 지속적인 혜택을 제공할 수 있는지를 보여준다.

기존의 송전 용량, 물인프라, 광섬유 연결망 및 가용 부지를 갖춘 파두카 부지 투자는 대규모 AI 인프라를 지원하고 주요 민간 투자를 유치하는 동시에 환경 정화 및 부지의 장기적인 재개발을 추진하는 데 있어 독보적인 위치에 있다.

팀 월시(Tim Walsh) 에너지부 환경관리 담당 차관은 "에너지부는 연방 토지를 미국 국민을 위해 생산적으로 활용할 수 있는 방법을 찾는 데 집중하고 있다"며 "이러한 약속은 저렴한 에너지 공급 확대, 인공지능 혁신의 세계적 선도, 지역 경제 성장, 지역 사회 복구 및 활성화라는 우리의 의무를 다하기 위한 미국 에너지 허브 이니셔티브의 핵심이다"라고 말했다.

2025년 11월 미국 에너지부의 입찰 공고에 따라 브룩필드가 파두카 데이터센터 캠퍼스 개발 및 운영사로, 넥스트에라 에너지가 해당 부지에 전력을 공급할 전용 에너지 인프라 구축 및 소유사로 선정됐다.

빅 리버스 일렉트릭 파워 코퍼레이션은 도매 전력 서비스를, 잭슨 퍼체이스 에너지 코퍼레이티브는 소매 전력 서비스를 제공하며, 파두카 파워 시스템은 지역사회 파트너 역할을 수행한다. 전력 서비스 계약은 켄터키 공공서비스위원회(Kentucky Public Service Commission)의 승인을 받아야 한다.

Energy Department Announces Partnership to Expand Reliable, Affordable Energy Access and Power America’s AI Future in Western Kentucky

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) today announced a landmark partnership expected to create approximately 8,000 construction jobs and 600 permanent jobs.

 

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) today announced a landmark partnership with Brookfield, NextEra Energy, Big Rivers Electric Power Corporation, Jackson Purchase Energy Cooperative, and Paducah Power System to redevelop portions of DOE’s Paducah Site into a data center campus accompanied by new affordable energy infrastructure.

The more than $100 billion privately funded investment, one of the largest in Kentucky’s history, is expected to create approximately 8,000 construction jobs and 600 permanent jobs.

Consistent with President Trump’s Ratepayer Protection Pledge, the project’s generation and storage capacity would exceed the campus’s energy needs, allowing excess electricity to be delivered to the regional grid, helping reduce energy costs for American families and businesses.

At or near the Paducah campus, NextEra Energy plans to develop 2 gigawatts (GW) of new grid-connected natural gas-fired generation, upgrade existing transmission infrastructure, and deploy up to 2.6 GW of battery energy storage to support a new 1.8 GW artificial intelligence and high-performance computing (HPC) innovation campus.

“Thanks to President Trump, the U.S. government is leveraging its assets—like our federal lands—to add power generation, create jobs, and ensure the United States wins the AI race,” said U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright.

“The President’s Ratepayer Protection Pledge ensures America can build the energy infrastructure needed to power the AI revolution while lowering electricity costs for American families and businesses. By transforming former DOE sites into engines of innovation and economic growth, we can revitalize communities with increased tax revenue and thousands of jobs, while also strengthening America’s energy security.”

“The $100 billion private sector investment in Paducah is historic,” said U.S. Congressman Andy Barr (R-KY). “I’m grateful to Secretary Wright for his leadership and partnership in securing a long-term commitment from the federal government to back this project. After speaking with local and state officials who were strongly supportive of this investment, I personally advocated with the Secretary to help make the project happen. Together with our private sector partners, this investment will create jobs, strengthen our energy security, and deliver lasting economic growth for Paducah and the Commonwealth for decades to come.”

The project advances DOE’s American Energy Hubs initiative, which is transforming former DOE sites into engines of affordable energy production, advanced manufacturing, technological innovation, and economic growth.

Building on the partnership model announced at the Portsmouth Site, the Paducah partnership demonstrates how federal, state, local, and private-sector collaboration can accelerate investment while delivering lasting benefits to surrounding communities.

With existing transmission capacity, water infrastructure, fiber connectivity, and available land, the Paducah Site is uniquely positioned to support large-scale AI infrastructure and attract major private investment while continuing environmental cleanup and advancing the site’s long-term redevelopment.

“We are intently focused on finding ways to put federal land back to productive use for the American people,” said DOE Assistant Secretary for Environmental Management Tim Walsh.

“That commitment is at the heart our American Energy Hubs initiative to increase affordable energy, lead the globe in AI innovations, grow local economies, and fulfill our obligation to restore and revitalize communities. Thanks to President Trump and Secretary Wright, we are giving Americans hope for the future by strengthening and securing our great nation for decades to come.”

Following DOE’s Request for Offers issued in November 2025, Brookfield was selected to develop and operate the Paducah data center campus, while NextEra Energy was selected to build and own the dedicated energy infrastructure that will power the site.
