SUEZ strengthens its hazardous waste activities in France with the authorisation to expand its storage facility in Île-de-France (Villeparisis) and the signing of major new contracts

The Villeparisis hazardous waste storage facility: a key asset for managing waste from local authorities and industry in Île-de-France

Operated by SUEZ since 1977, the Villeparisis site is one of the two hazardous waste storage facilities in Île-de-France included in the Regional Waste Prevention and Management Plan (PRPGD), and it plays a vital role in meeting the region¡¯s needs. It provides an essential solution for the treatment of hazardous solid mineral waste generated by around one thousand regional customers — industrial operators, construction and civil engineering firms, and local authorities. This includes soils from the remediation of industrial sites, asbestos and lead containing waste from building renovation and demolition projects, as well as flue gas treatment residues from energy- from- waste plants and boilers across Île-de-France.

The site has received a new prefectoral authorisation allowing it to continue the safe containment and management of hazardous Île-de-France waste, as well as from other regions lacking suitable treatment solutions, for a period of 20 years, with an authorised annual capacity of 250,000 tonnes.

With this permit extension, SUEZ strengthens its position as a leading player in hazardous waste management in France. With an annual treatment capacity of 1.6 million tonnes, the Group provides end-to-end solutions across the waste value chain, including:

sorting and bulking at six facilities across France.

processing high-calorific hazardous waste into alternative fuels for use in cement plants, thereby displacing fossil fuels, across six sites in France.

treating industrial wastewater with three industrial wastewater plants operated in France, SUEZ has a treatment capacity of 100,000 m a year.

very high-temperature incineration (above 1,100 ¡ÆC) at the industrial platforms in Roussillon and Pont-de-Claix in the Isère department.

secure disposal and containment of non-recoverable mineral waste. SUEZ operates five hazardous waste stabilisation and landfill facilities in France.

In addition, SUEZ provides on-site industrial waste management services at customers¡¯ facilities, delivering tailored support as close as possible to the point of waste generation.

Sustained commercial momentum in France¡¯s hazardous waste market

France¡¯s hazardous waste market is expanding, driven by stricter environmental regulation, enhanced requirements for specialised treatment and traceability, and heightened public health concerns about substances such as PFAS. As a result, industrial firms are seeking tailored, innovative treatment solutions.

Drawing on decades of expertise and a network of 24 specialist sites, SUEZ deploys 800 experts in organic and inorganic chemistry, industrial water, health and safety, and industrial risk to deliver solutions to the highest standards of industrial performance. The Group has recently secured three contracts in France with major players in the pharmaceuticals, energy and defence sectors, with a combined value of several tens of millions of euros.

STORENGY, an ENGIE subsidiary specialiszed in underground natural gas storage, has awarded SUEZ a four-year contract to collect and treat aqueous effluents from several sites in France. These are processed at the wastewater treatment plant in Villers-Saint-Paul (Oise department), and then incinerated at the facilities in Pont-de-Claix and Roussillon (Isère department).

B+T Group, a major player in energy supply contributing to the decarbonisation of industrial operations, is renewing its trust in SUEZ for securing the ash produced at its energy‑from‑Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF) facility in Chalampé (Haut Rhin department68). SUEZ has been managing B+T Group¡¯s hazardous waste since 2023 at the hazardous waste storage facilities of Vaivre (Haute‑Saône department) and Jeandelaincourt (Meurthe‑et‑Moselle department).

Since January 2026, under a five-year contract, SUEZ has been responsible for sorting, processing into alternative fuels, high-temperature incineration and secure disposal of more than 1,000 tonnes of hazardous waste from EURENCO — the European leader in military explosives, propellants and fuels — at its two French sites in Bergerac (Dordogne department) and Sorgues (Vaucluse department).

We are pleased with the strong commercial momentum in the hazardous waste market in France, which underpins our ambitious development strategy in this sector. Hazardous waste treatment addresses the growing need among industrial companies and local authorities for secure solutions to manage their effluent and non-recoverable waste. SUEZ brings cutting-edge expertise to treating its customers¡¯ hazardous waste, in full compliance with all applicable regulations.

- Michel Durrmeyer , CEO of SUEZ¡¯s hazardous waste operations in France
