캐나다 정부는 연방 정부, 브리티시컬럼비아 주 정부, 리튼(Lytton)시가 공동으로 750만 달러 이상을 투자해 리튼의 하수 수집 및 처리시설을 개선할 예정이라고 밝혔다.

이번 투자금은 2021년 화재로 손상된 인프라를 교체하고 리튼하수처리장을 개선하는 데 사용된다. 새롭게 개선될 처리장은 공정 모니터링 및 제어를 지원하는 SCADA(감시 제어 및 데이터 수집) 시스템을 갖추게 되며, 예비 전력 공급 장치와 방류수 수질 개선을 위한 처리 설비도 포함된다. 이를 통해 프레이저 강으로 방류되기 전에 하수의 수질을 향상시킬 수 있다.

리튼하수처리장은 2021년 화재를 견뎌냈지만, 이번 개선 사업은 지역 복구와 재건 과정에서 미래의 처리 수요를 충족하는 데 중요한 역할을 할 것으로 기대된다.

크리스틴 보일(Christine Boyle) 브리티시컬럼비아 주 주택 및 지방자치부 장관은 “이번 투자는 리튼이 더 건강한 공동체로 재건되는 데 도움이 될 것이다. 개선된 시설은 주민들에게 안정적인 하수처리 서비스를 제공하고, 앞으로 수년간 수질을 보호할 것이다. 회복력 있는 인프라에 대한 투자를 통해 지역사회가 회복하고 미래의 도전에 대비할 수 있도록 지원하고 있다”고 강조했다

데니스 오코너(Denise O’Connor) 리튼시장은 “리튼은 연방 및 주 정부의 중요한 인프라 투자에 감사드린다. 하수 시스템과 하수처리시설 개선은 2021년 화재로 손상된 인프라를 복구하고, 재건 과정에서 지역사회의 미래 수요를 충족하는 데 큰 도움이 될 것”이라고 밝혔다.

주요 내용

- 연방 정부는 캐나다 인프라 투자 프로그램의 녹색 인프라 사업을 통해 300만6천108달러를 투자한다. 브리티시컬럼비아 주 정부는 250만4천839달러를, 리튼시는 200만4천323달러를 각각 투자한다.

- 이번 사업은 기후변화 대응, 온실가스 배출 감소, 재생에너지 기술 지원을 통해 친환경적인 지역사회를 조성에 기여한다.

- 이번 발표를 포함해 브리티시컬럼비아 주에서는 녹색 인프라 사업을 통해 총 170개의 인프라 프로젝트가 발표됐으며, 연방 정부 지원금은 총 7억7천500만 달러 이상, 주 정부 지원금은 총 4억3천800만 달러 이상이다.

- 연방 정부 지원금은 원주민 단체와의 협의 및 환경 영향 평가 의무 이행을 조건으로 한다.

The governments of Canada and British Columbia invest in wastewater treatment in Lytton

Enhanced infrastructure will improve sewer collection and wastewater treatment in Lytton after a joint investment of just over $7.5 million from the federal, provincial, and municipal governments.

Funding will go towards upgrading the Lytton Wastewater Treatment Plant by replacing failing and damaged infrastructure which resulted from the 2021 fire. The improved plant will have a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) monitoring and management system, which will help with monitoring and controlling processes, along with a back-up power supply and treatment upgrades to improve wastewater quality before it gets discharged to the Fraser River.

While the wastewater treatment plant survived the 2021 fire, these upgrades will play a key role in supporting Lytton’s recovery and future capacity needs with rebuilding.

-The federal government is investing $3,006,108 through the Green Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program. The Government of British Columbia is investing $2,504,839 and the Village of Lytton is contributing $2,004,323.

-This stream helps build greener communities by contributing to climate change preparedness, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and supporting renewable technologies.

-Including today’s announcement, 170 infrastructure projects under the Green Infrastructure Stream have been announced in British Columbia, with a total federal contribution of more than $775 million and a total provincial contribution of more than $438 million.  

-Federal funding is conditional on fulfilling all requirements related to consultation with Indigenous groups and environmental assessment obligations.
