스위스 취리히에 본사를 둔 글로벌 기술기업 ABB(https://www.abb.com)는 독일 국제협력청(German Agency for International Cooperation, GIZ) 및 요르단 수자원청(Water Authority of Jordan)으로부터 수자원 및 에너지 데이터 관리를 위한 ABB 제닉스(Genix™) 산업용 IoT(사물인터넷) 및 AI(인공지능) 제품군 제공 업체로 선정되어, 수자원 부문 전반의 에너지 효율을 개선하여 국가의 수자원 관리 과제를 해결하고 있다. 요르단은 현재 세계에서 15번째로 물부족 국가로 평가받고 있다.

ABB는 이 프로젝트의 일환으로 요르단의 파트너사인 볼트 오토메이션 LLC(Volt Automation LLC)에 제닉스(Genix™)의 효과적인 구현을 위한 포괄적인 교육 및 지원을 제공할 예정이다. 

이 솔루션은 여러 자산에서 수집된 통합적이고 상황에 맞는 실시간 데이터를 활용하여 수도 시설 전반의 운영을 최적화하고 지속가능성을 향상시키도록 설계되었으며, 이를 통해 운영 효율성과 비용 절감을 실현한다.

수도 부문에서 제닉스(Genix™)는 양수장(Pumping Stations), 정수장, 배급망 등 다양한 환경에서 에너지 소비를 모니터링하고 분석하는 데 사용될 수 있으며, 이를 통해 운영자는 데이터에 기반한 의사 결정을 내려 물관리를 개선하고 에너지 효율을 높이며 일관된 서비스를 제공할 수 있다.

ABB의 위삼 아사프(Wissam Assaf) 에너지 산업 및 공정 산업 사업부의 글로벌 파트너 사업 책임자는 “디지털 기술은 더 나은 정보에 기반한 의사 결정을 신속하게 내리는 데 핵심적인 역할을 한다고 생각한다”고 말했다.

아사프 책임자는 특히 “디지털 혁신과 에너지 효율 솔루션을 활용함으로써 요르단이 더욱 지속 가능하고 회복력 있는 수자원 부문을 구축할 수 있도록 지원할 수 있다”라면서 “현지 파트너와의 협력을 통해 지역사회에 힘을 실어주고, 자원 사용을 최적화하며, 모두를 위한 더 나은 미래에 기여하고자 한다”라고 강조했다.

요르단은 연간 1인당 재생 가능한 수자원이 61㎥에 불과한 세계에서 물이 가장 부족한 국가 중 하나이다. 인구 증가, 농업 확장, 기후변화의 영향으로 요르단의 수자원 공급에 대한 압박이 커지고 있다.

요르단은 물공급, 환경보전 및 관련 인프라 개발 지원을 위한 조치를 포함한 ‘2022∼2050 국가 기후변화 정책(National Climate Change Policy 2022-2050)’을 진행하기 위해 최선을 다하고 있다.

볼트 오토메이션 LLC(Volt Automation LLC)의 시난 히아삿(Sinan Hiasat) 총괄 매니저는 “ABB와 긴밀히 협력하여 디지털 혁신과 파트너십이 경제 및 환경적 발전을 어떻게 촉진하는지 보여주는 이 프로젝트를 진행하게 되어 자랑스럽다”라고 말했다.

Jordan’s water industry taps into ABB’s digital and AI technology to address resource scarcity

Jordan is among the most water-scarce countries in the world, with population growth, overuse of water and the impacts of climate change reducing resources

 

ABB has been selected by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the Water Authority of Jordan to provide its ABB Genix™ Industrial IoT and AI Suite for water and energy data management to help address the nation’s water management challenges by improving energy efficiency across the sector. Jordan is currently ranked as the 15th most water scarce country in the world1.

As part of the project, ABB will also deliver comprehensive training and support to its in-country partner, Volt Automation LLC, to ensure effective implementation of Genix. The solution is designed to optimize operations and improve sustainability across water utilities using integrated, contextualized real-time data from multiple assets that enables operational efficiencies and cost savings.

Within the water sector, Genix can be used to monitor and analyze energy consumption in a range of settings, including pumping stations, treatment plants and distribution networks, enabling operators to make data-informed decisions to improve water resource management, achieve higher energy efficiency and provide consistent service delivery.

Jordan is among the most water-scarce countries in the world, with only 61 m3 per capita a year of renewable water resources. A growing population, agricultural expansion and the impacts of climate change are increasing the pressure on Jordan’s water supplies. 

The country remains committed to progressing its National Climate Change Policy 2022-2050, which includes action for supporting water supply, conservation and related infrastructure development.
