퓨라피니티(Puraffinity)는 과불화화합물(PFAS) 제거를 위한 첨단 흡착제 분야의 선도 기업으로, 미국 육군 공병연구개발센터(ERDC)와 공동 연구 및 개발 협약(CRADA)을 체결했다고 발표했다.

 

이번 협력의 목적은 PFAS로 오염된 수질을 처리하기 위해 개발된 흡착 소재 퓨라테크 G400(Puratech G400)을 활용한 연구 및 현장 실증을 수행하는 것을 목표로 한다.

이번 협약에 따라 퓨라피니티와 ERDC는 실험실 및 현장 테스트를 공동으로 진행하며, Puratech G400의 성능을 입상 활성탄(GAC) 및 이온교환수지(IEX) 등 기존 PFAS 처리 기술과 비교 평가할 예정이다. 이번 협력의 주요 목적은 Puratech G400이 PFAS 제거 과정에서 처리 효율을 향상시키고, 운영비(OPEX) 및 자본비(CAPEX)를 절감할 수 있는 지를 탐색하는 것이다. 연구는 과거 시설에서 발생한 오염원, 특히 소방용 발포제(AFFF)로 인한 PFAS 오염을 주요 대상으로 진행된다.

주요 연구 목표는 다음과 같다.

• 국방부(DoD) 및 비국방부 시설에서 수집한 실제 PFAS 오염수 샘플을 사용해 실험실 및 파일럿 규모의 테스트 수행

• 국방부 시설 및 기타 환경에서의 향후 적용 가능성을 평가하기 위한 성능 데이터 구축

• Puratech G400을 기존 PFAS 파괴 기술의 보완 또는 마무리 단계(Polishing Step)로 활용 가능성 평가.

Puraffinity and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Partner to Advance PFAS Remediation Technologies

Puraffinity, a leading innovator of advanced adsorbents for the removal of per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS), announces a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC).

The goal of the collaboration is to conduct research and field demonstrations involving Puraffinity’s Puratech G400, an adsorbent material developed for the treatment of PFAS-contaminated waters.

Under this agreement, ERDC and Puraffinity will conduct a series of laboratory and field trials. These trials will compare the performance of Puratech G400 with other PFAS treatment technologies such as Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) and Ion Exchange Resins (IEX).

The primary objective is to explore Puratech G400’s potential in improving treatment outcomes and reducing operating expenses (OPEX) and capital expenditure (CAPEX) in PFAS remediation. The research will target contamination sources from legacy facilities, including aqueous film-forming foams (AFFF). 

The key research objectives include:

•Conducting laboratory and pilot-scale testing using real-world PFAS-contaminated water samples from both Department of Defense (DoD) and non-DoD sites.

•Developing performance data to inform potential future applications on DoD installations and other settings.

•Evaluating the use of Puratech G400 as a complementary or polishing step to existing destruction technologies.
