WaterHub¢ç Transforming Sustainability for University of Texas, Reducing Potable Water Demand by 40%
H2O Innovation Inc. ("H2O Innovation" or the ¡°Corporation¡±) today announced that it is launching the largest university facility campus in the United States of America. H2O Innovation is pairing with the University of Texas (UT) at Austin in putting a revolutionizing 9,600-squarefoot water processing facility on the University campus. Called WaterHub¢ç, it is an onsite wastewater treatment and reuse facility that can be deployed at a wide variety of sites such as universities but also including hospitals, and other commercial & industrial locations.
The UT WaterHub¢ç project underscores the University¡¯s commitment to water management innovation and its response to growing water scarcity, with an emphasis on enhancing the resilience of water services during storms and addressing aging infrastructure.
¡°This transformational project further positions the University as a national leader in resource management. The UT WaterHub¢ç will enable the University to be proactive, resilient, and dynamic in our reclaimed and recovered water strategy—prioritizing utility water conservation with auxiliary water resources — and creating a profound, best-in-class service for the University community¡±, said Xavier Rivera Marzán, executive director of utilities and energy management, University of Texas.
The WaterHub¢ç is expected to substantially reduce campus water usage, decrease dependence on city water supplies, and enhance utility infrastructure resilience—resulting in cost savings in water purchases and water discharge fees over the next several years.
Early projections indicate that the UT WaterHub¢ç will reduce campus potable water usage by 40% and lower demand on campus sewer systems by 70%, using fewer chemicals and require fewer resources overall to treat water,
It will be in the center of the Engineering quadrant of campus, offering an opportunity to integrate academic and research endeavors by allowing students and researchers to study water treatment and reuse technologies in a real-world application.
"This new WaterHub¢ç installation exemplifies our mission to revolutionize water management in institutional settings. By combining cutting-edge technology with our innovative financing approach, we're making it easier for organizations to adopt sustainable water practices that benefit both their bottom line and the environment, paving a step forward in water positivity¡±, said Frédéric Dugré, president and CEO of H2O Innovation.
