스페인의 글로벌 물·환경 기업인 악시오나(ACCIONA)의 자회사인 악시오나 에너지아(ACCIONA Energia)는 미국 오하이오(Ohio)에 있는 325MWp(메가와트)급의 유니온 솔라 태양광 발전소(Union Solar Farm)가 상업 운영 날짜(Commercial Operation Date, COD)에 도달, 오하이오 전력망에 에너지를 주입하기 시작했다고 12월 26일 발표했다.

이 프로젝트는 오하이오 주 중부 메리스빌(Marysville)에 위치하고 있으며 5.7㎢(22 square mile)에 걸쳐 76만 개의 PV모듈로 구성되어 있다. 약 6만2천 가구의 에너지 수요를 충족하기에 충분한 325MWp의 용량을 갖춘 유니온 쏠라는 아마존(Amazon)과 장기 전력구매계약(PPA)을 체결했다.

환경적 이점 외에도 유니온 쏠라 발전소의 건설은 발전소가 위치한 지역의 지역 사회에 상당한 직접적인 경제적 영향을 미쳤다. 건설이 절정에 달했을 때 370개 이상의 일자리가 창출되었으며 노동력의 80%가 오하이오 주에서 왔다. 본격 운영에 들어가면 20개 이상의 영구 일자리가 유지된다.

또한 프로젝트의 연간 수익의 일부는 프로젝트가 위치한 지역 사회 주민들의 생활 조건을 개선하는 것을 목표로 하는 회사의 사회적 영향 관리 프로그램을 통해 지역 사회에 재투자된다.

악시오나 에너지아는 20년 동안 북미에서 운영되어 왔다. 이 회사가 미국과 캐나다에 설치한 재생 가능 에너지 설비를 합치면 현재 3GW의 재생 에너지 설치 용량이 되며, 앨버타의 포티 마일 풍력 프로젝트가 완공되면 3.3GW를 초과할 예정이다.

ACCIONA Energia announced today the achievement of Commercial Operation Date (COD) for its Union Solar Farm in Ohio (325MWp), officially marking the start of energy injection into the Ohio grid.

The project is located in Marysville, central Ohio, and it is comprised of 760,000 solar panels spread over 22 square miles. With a capacity of 325MWp, enough to meet the energy needs of nearly 62,000 households, Union Solar benefits from a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Amazon.

On top of the environmental benefits, the construction of the Union Solar farm has had a direct positive economic impact on the local communities where the project is located. It generated more than 370 jobs during peak construction, with more than 80% of the labor being local to the State of Ohio, and it will maintain up to 20 permanent jobs during operations.

In addition, a portion of the project’s annual revenues will be reinvested in the local community through the company’s Social Impact Management program, aimed at improving the living conditions of residents in the communities where the projects are located.

ACCIONA Energia has been operating in North America for twenty years, where it has more than 250 permanent employees. The company’s renewable energy fleet across the US and Canada boasts a current installed capacity of 3GWs of renewable energy and will surpass 3.3GWs upon completion of its Forty Mile wind project in Alberta.
