서던워터는 200만 파운드 규모의 웨스트서식스 하·폐수처리시설 개선 작업이 마무리 단계에 진입했다고 밝혔다.

서던워터(Southern Water)는 200만 파운드 규모의 웨스트서식스(West Sussex) 하·폐수처리시설 개선 작업이 마무리 단계에 진입했다고 밝혔다. 이 프로젝트는 우즈 강(River Ouse)으로 방류되는 하·폐수처리수의 기준을 강화해 지역 환경을 보호하고 개선하기 위해 추진됐다.

하·폐수처리시설 개선 개선에는 인(P)을 낮추기 위한 새로운 제2철 투여 기술 도입이 포함되며, 가압 ekdurhk 탱크 설치(pressurised multimedia tanks)도 포함된다.

12월 중순까지 완전히 완료될 이 계획은 갤리포드 트라이 인바이러먼트(Galliford Try Environment)와 비니즈Binnies(Binnies UK Ltd)의 합작 투자사인 GTb가 수행하고 있으며, 이는 월섬(Waltham), 이스트 메온(East Meon), 볼드레(Boldre) 지역에서 완료된 하·폐수처리시설 개선에 이어 서던워터 지역에서 진행 중인 네 번째 계획이다.

리 후퍼(Lee Hooper) 서던워터 프로젝트 매니저는 "수질 개선과 인 저감에 큰 변화를 가져올 이 작업을 거의 마무리하게 되어 정말 기쁘다"고 말했다.

A major improvement scheme at a West Sussex wastewater treatment works is being finalised to protect and enhance the local environment.

A major improvement scheme at a West Sussex wastewater treatment works is being finalised to protect and enhance the local environment. 

The project at Handcross, south of Crawley, will boost the quality of treated wastewater leaving the site and entering the River Ouse.  

The work includes installing new ferric dosing technology – used to reduce phosphorous levels. The work also includes installing pressurised multimedia tanks.

The scheme, which will be fully finished by mid-December,  is being carried out by GTb, a joint venture between Galliford Try Environment and Binnies UK Ltd, is the fourth similar scheme being carried out across our region after completed schemes at our treatment works in Bishops Waltham, East Meon and Boldre. 

Lee Hooper Project Manager Southern Water, said: “We’re really pleased to be nearly finishing this work here which will make a big difference in improving water quality and reduce phosphorous levels.”  

Lee McGrattan, Project Manager for GTb, added: “It’s great to see this project realised and to know that from 4 October the environment is benefitting from this investment. The team still have work to do at Handcross WTW before they remove their welfare cabins, but it’s fantastic news to have the new equipment up and running.”
