Plaquemines Parish, La. Renews O&M Contract
with Severn Trent Services
Fort Washington, Pa. - June 18, 2002 - Plaquemines Parish, La. has renewed its contract with Severn Trent Services for the operation and maintenance of its water and wastewater system. The five-year contract renewal was unanimously approved at the February meeting of the Parish Water and Sewer Committee and subsequently agreed to by the full Council at the March meeting.
Since 1998, Severn Trent has provided contract operations and maintenance for the Parish, including the operation of five surface water treatment plants; five pressure booster stations for the water system; 10 wastewater treatment plants; and 150 lift stations. The system, which serves approximately 35,000 resident and transient customers, is made up of 350 miles of water distribution lines, 160 miles of sanitary sewer collection lines, and includes water and sewer service to the Naval Air Station/Joint Reserve Base in New Orleans.
The Parish Water and Sewer Committee unanimously agreed to renew the contract following a favorable report presented by the government¡¯s consulting engineer, Frank Newell of Lindfield, Hunter, and Junius Engineering.
