Veolia to provide sulphate removal membrane system for oil tanker in Australia
Veolia subsidiary VWS Westgarth has been awarded a contract to supply a flood water system for the Ngujima-Yin Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) facility.
Awarded by Aibel Singapore on behalf of Woodside Petroleum, the system will include the first use of sulphate removal in Australia. The project includes the design, equipment procurement and supply, including ultrafiltration (UF) pre-treatment, sulphate removal membrane process (SRP) and duel fuel turbine driven water injection pump.
Injection capacity will be 12,720 m3/day, with a turndown capacity of 8,745 m3/day.
The SRP membrane process is designed to remove sulphates and other ions from injection water used in enhanced oil recovery.
Veolia said the ¡°removal of these ions reduces the tendency of barium sulphate and strontium sulphate scale to form in the reservoir and flowlines, plus prevent well souring by controlling sulphate reducing bacteria¡±.
