코플랜드 태양광 발전소, TVA의 ‘발전 유연성 프로그램’의 일환으로 테네시 주 지역전력회사에 재생에너지 제공

내슈빌에 본사를 둔 독립 전력 생산업체인 ‘실리콘 랜치’와 테네시강 유역 개발공사 지역의 전기 협동조합인 ‘미들 테네시 일렉트릭’은 난 5월 13일 TVA의 ‘발전 유연성 프로그램(Generation Flexibility Program)’에 따라 획기적인 태양광 계약을 체결했다.

내슈빌(Nashville)에 본사를 둔 미국 최대의 독립 전력 생산업체이자 지역사회 중심의 재생에너지 회사인 ‘실리콘 랜치(Silicon Ranch)’와 테네시강 유역 개발공사(Tennessee Valley Authority, TVA) 지역의 가장 큰 전기 협동조합인 ‘미들 테네시 일렉트릭(Middle Tennessee Electric, MTE)’은 지난 5월 13일 TVA의 ‘발전 유연성 프로그램(Generation Flexibility Program)’에 따라 획기적인 태양광 계약을 체결했다. 

이 계약에 따라 두 기업은 테네시 밸리에 소재한 지역전력회사(LPC)에 직접 서비스를 제공하는 110메가와트(MWAC) 규모의 코플랜드 태양광 발전소(Copeland Solar Farm)에 협력한다.  

실리콘 랜치는 MTE를 대신해 테네시 주 컴벌랜드 카운티(Cumberland County)에 있는 코플랜드 태양광 발전소에 자금을 지원하고, 건설·소유·운영 및 유지 관리할 계획이다. 

2027년 말 공사가 완료되면 MTE는 시설에서 생성된 전력을 제공받아, MTE의 협동조합이 11개 카운티에 걸쳐 테네시 주의 75만 명 이상의 주민들에게 혜택을 제공할 것이다. 

실리콘 랜치는 코플랜드 태양광 발전소를 건설하기 위해 상당한 투자를 하고 있으며, 이 프로젝트는 향후 지역 사회에서 지역 기반 시설과 학교를 지원하기 위해 컴벌랜드 카운티에 수백만 달러의 새로운 세수를 창출할 것이다.

실리콘 랜치는 이 기념비적인 계약을 축하하기 위에 내슈빌에 위치한 본사에서 MTE 및 TVA의 고위 관계자와 함께 서명식을 개최했다.

Middle Tennessee Electric and Silicon Ranch Announce First Utility-Scale Solar Project Under TVA’s Expanded Generation Flexibility Program

Nashville-based Silicon Ranch, one of the nation’s largest independent power producers and a community-focused renewable energy company, and Middle Tennessee Electric (MTE), the largest electric cooperative in the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) region and the second largest in the United States, today announced a landmark solar agreement under TVA’s newly expanded Generation Flexibility Program.

The two middle Tennessee businesses have agreed to partner on the 110-megawatt (MWAC) Copeland Solar Farm, which will be the largest solar facility to serve a local power company (LPC) directly in the Tennessee Valley. 

On behalf of MTE, Silicon Ranch will fund, construct, own, operate and maintain the 110 MWAC Copeland Solar Farm in Cumberland County, Tennessee. Once construction is completed in late 2027, MTE will receive the power and environmental attributes generated by the facility—realizing savings on day one of operation—to benefit the more than 750,000 Tennesseans the cooperative serves across 11 counties. As both the landowner and operator, Silicon Ranch will remain invested in and committed to the continued success and economic viability of Cumberland County and the surrounding community for decades to come. Silicon Ranch is making a significant investment to install the Copeland Solar Farm, and over time, the project will generate millions of dollars in new tax revenue for Cumberland County to support local infrastructure and schools, among other community-identified priorities.
