[미국] 공군, 도시 하수시스템에 실수로 독성 화학물질 방출

Fox News에 따르면, 콜로라도 피터슨 공군 기지가 콜로라도 스프링스(Colorado Spring) 인접 도시의 하수 시스템으로 PFC 화합물을 함유한 대략 15만 갤런의 물을 실수로 방출됐다.

공군 관계자는 콜로라도 스프링스 관계자들이 화학물질이 도시 식수로 방출되지 않았다고 말했음에도 불구하고, 기지에서 소방 거품에 사용되는 화학물질이 얼마나 높은 수준인지는 말하지 않았다.   

도시의 폐수처리공장은 PFC를 제거토록 설정되어 있지 않아, 오염된 물은 이 지역에 물을 공급하지 않는 개울로 방출됐다.

AIR FORCE SAYS TOXIC CHEMICALS WERE RELEASED INTO CITY'S SEWER SYSTEM

According to Fox News, Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado accidentally released about 150,000 gallons of water containing PFC compounds into the sewer system of the adjacent city of Colorado Springs.

Air Force officials did not say how high the levels of the chemicals, used in firefighting foam at the base were, though Colorado Springs officials say the chemicals were not released into the city's drinking water

The city's wastewater treatment plant isn't set up to remove PFCs, so the tainted water was discharged into a creek that does not supply water to the area.
