여름 시즌이 시작되면서 전국의 수영장이 곧 개장할 예정이다. 

웨스트레이크(Westlake Corporation, WLK)의 사업부인 웨스트레이크 워터 솔루션(Westlake Water Solutions)과 테스트 및 표준을 제공하는 선도적인 공중 보건 및 안전 기관인 NSF 인터내셔널(NSF International)은 5월 1일부터 시작된 국가 물 안전의 달(National Water Safety Month)을 기념해 건강 검사관과 수영장 운영자에게 인증된 소독 시스템에서 지정된 정제염소를 사용하는 것의 중요성을 상기시켰다.

오스틴 루퍼(Austin Looper) 웨스트레이크 워터 솔루션 사업이사는 “비와 태양의 자외선으로 인한 염소 분해를 해결할 수 있는 피더 시스템(feeder systems)으로 수영장을 적절하게 염소처리하는 것이 중요하다”고 말했다. 

루퍼는 “피더(feeder)에 NSF 표준 50 인증을 받지 않은 정제 염소를 사용하면 과도하거나 불충분한 염소 처리와 같은 문제를 야기할 수 있다”며 “NSF, 미국의 질병통제예방센터(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), 미국 화학 위원회(American Chemistry Council)와 같은 기관은 부적절한 화학 작용과 사고를 예방하는 데 도움이 되는 표준, 코드 및 교육 비디오 형태의 도구를 제공한다”고 말했다. 

테레사 벨리시(Theresa Bellish) NSF의 수석 글로벌 전무 이사에 따르면 NSF 인터내셔널은 NSF/ANSI/CAN 50의 요구 사항에 따라 상업 및 주거용 수영장 제품을 테스트하고 인증한다. 

NSF의 미시간 주 앤아버(Ann Arbor, Michigan)에 소재한 실험실은 화학 전달 시스템과 정제에 대한 성능검증의 정확성으로 전 세계적으로 인정받고 있다. 주어진 시스템에서 사용하도록 지정된 정제염소만이 대부분의 주와 지방 자치 단체가 의무화한 표준 50을 준수한다.

Westlake Water Solutions Reminds About Safety Risks Posed by Improper Pool Chlorination

 

Commercial pools around the country will soon open, ushering in the start of the summer season. In recognition of National Water Safety Month, which began on May 1st, Westlake Water Solutions, a business unit of Westlake Corporation (NYSE: WLK); and NSF International, a leading public health and safety organization that provides testing and standards, are reminding health inspectors and pool operators about the importance of using properly specified chlorine tablets in their certified sanitizing systems.

“Along with the sun and fun that come with commercial water, it is important to properly chlorinate commercial pools with feeder systems that can keep up with degradation of chlorine due to heavy bather loads, rain and the sun’s ultraviolet rays,” said Austin Looper, director, Westlake Water Solutions business. “Organizations like NSF, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Chemistry Council offer tools in the form of standards, codes and training videos to help safeguard against accidents and improper chemical application. For example, using chlorine tablets that are not NSF Standard 50 certified for use in their feeder can result in problems like over or insufficient chlorination of the water.”

“NSF International tests and certifies commercial and residential pool products to the requirements of NSF/ANSI/CAN 50,” according to Theresa Bellish, senior global managing director at NSF.

NSF’s Ann Arbor, Michigan, labs are recognized around the world for their accuracy to verify performance of chemical delivery systems and tablets, which are tested in conjunction with one another. Only chlorine tablets specified for use in a given system will maintain compliance to Standard 50, mandated by most states and local municipalities.
