[스위스] 슐저, 이집트 수처리장에 펌프·교반기 지원

슐저(Sulzer)가 세계 최대 규모의 이집트 수처리장에 펌프와 교반기를 공급한다.

술저는 이집트 엘 템사(El Temsah) 호수 인근 7만 에이커(acre) 농지에 관개용수를 공급하는 수처리장에 펌프와 교반기를 공급해 관개를 지원하고 호수 생태계 오염을 방지한다고 지난 10월 13일 밝혔다.

투자 규모는 약 1억 달러이며, 이 처리장은 하루 최대 약 100만㎥의 농업 폐수를 처리한다.

슐저에 따르면, 이집트의 엘 템사(El Temsah) 호수는 수십 년 동안 이 지역 농장에서 흘러나온 유출수로부터 심하게 오염되어 왔다.

슐저 관계자는 “이집트 강화된 농업 폐수 처리 공정의 요구 사항을 충족하도록 설계된 펌프 및 교반기를 공급할 업체로 우리가 선택됐다”고 밝혔다.

슐저는 신뢰할 수 있고 효율적인 프로세스 제공으로 수처리장이 최소한의 환경발자국으로 적은 운영비용을 지출하도록 한다는 방침이다. 술저 측은 펌프와 교반기에는 고효율 모터가 장착되어 있어 세계적 수준의 에너지 절약, 신뢰성, 매우 긴 서비스 수명을 달성하여 공장이 효율성과 지속 가능성 목표를 달성할 수 있도록 도울 수 있다고 밝혔다.

슐저의 펌프사업부 사장인 프레드릭 라란느(Frederic Lalanne)는 “이번 수처리 프로젝트를 지원하게 된 것을 자랑스럽게 생각한다. 깨끗한 물을 확보, 처리 및 제공하는 것은 전 세계적인 과제이며 당사는 맞춤형 솔루션을 통해 이러한 목표를 달성하는 데 도움을 줄 수 있는 독보적인 위치에 있다. 이 프로젝트는 엘 템사 호수를 지속 가능한 방식으로 정화해 농업에 꼭 필요한 깨끗한 물을 확보하는 데 도움이 될 것이다”라고 말했다.

한편 엘 템사 수질오염 정화 작업은 농업에 깨끗한 물을 제공하고 부족한 나일강 수원에 대한 수요를 완화할 이집트의 수원 다변화 전략의 핵심 부분이다.

Sulzer supporting award-winning water treatment plant to irrigate 70,000 acres of agricultural land in the desert

The El Temsah lake in Egypt has become heavily polluted in recent years from decades of run-off from the region’s farms. Reversing the pollution is a key part of Egypt’s water diversification strategy to provide clean water for agriculture and ease pressure on the River Nile’s strained resources. Sulzer’s pumps and agitators are supporting the award-winning water treatment plant, one of biggest of its kind in the world, to irrigate 70,000 acres of agricultural land in the region as well as reverse the lake’s declining ecology.

Representing an investment of approximately 100 million US dollars, the water treatment facility for the El Temsah Lake treats up to 1 million cubic meters (35 million cubic feet) of agricultural wastewater per day. The plant provides clean water to irrigate 70'000 acres of nearby agricultural land.

Sulzer was selected to supply a range of pumps and agitators that are uniquely designed to meet the requirements of the highly specialized agricultural wastewater treatment process.

Sulzer delivered a reliable and efficient process, allowing the plant to achieve low operating costs with a minimal environmental footprint. Sulzer’s pumps and agitators are fitted with high-efficiency motors to achieve world-class energy savings, reliability, and an exceptionally long service life, helping the plant to meet its efficiency and sustainability goals.

The plant aims to ease pressure on the river Nile’s strained resources, in a country that sees almost no rainfall for large parts of the year. It also contributes to the ecological restoration of the lake, which had suffered from growing urbanization in the region and decades of run-off from surrounding farms.
