식음료 전문리서치 기업인 제니스 글로벌(Zenith Global)의 '2020년 미국 워터 디스펜서 시장 보고서(2020 US Water Dispense Market Report)'에 따르면 미국의 정수기 수는 매년 4% 가량 증가해 2019년 처음으로 800만대를 넘어섰다.

그러나 매출은 2017년까지 꾸준한 성장세를 보인뒤 다시 1% 감소한 4억1천만 달러로 감소했다. 이는 주로 생수 디스펜서에서 도시용수를 여과하는 장착 디스펜서로 전환한 데 따른 것이다.

 

생수 디스펜서가 전체의 73%인 600만대에 육박해 2014년 78%에 비해 줄었다. 디스펜서는 지난 5년간 140만 대 이하에서 210만 대 이상으로 성장해 26%의 점유율을 차지했다. 나머지 1%는 통합된 탭 시스템으로 구성된다.

US  Water Dispense Market Tops 8 Million

 

 

The number of water dispensers in the United States has been growing by around 4% a year and topped 8 million for the first time in 2019, according to the new US Water Dispense Market Report from Zenith Global, the food and drink experts.

Revenue, however, fell back by 1% to $4.1B after steady growth until 2017. This was mainly because of a shift from bottled water dispensers to fitted dispensers that filter municipal water at the point of use.

Bottled water dispensers accounted for nearly 6 million units, 73% of the total, down from 78% in 2014. Point of use dispensers have grown from under 1.4 million to over 2.1 million during the past 5 years to take a 26% share. The remaining 1% consists of integrated tap systems.

Most water dispensers are located in workplaces, representing two thirds of all installations. The other key locations are: healthcare; hotels, restaurants and catering; and domestic.

“The biggest was the purchase by second placed DS Services of third placed Primo in March 2020 for $775B. This could be exceeded, following the June 2020 announcement that first placed Nestle Waters North America intends to divest its water dispense business."

“The coronavirus pandemic is also forecast to have a major effect on the market, causing a substantial decline of 13-20% in 2020, followed by a rapid or slower recovery, returning to growth in 2021 in our moderate impact model and as late as 2023 in our significant impact model,” he concluded.
