Oregon's Joint Water Commission awards contract to Slayden Constructors, Inc.

Slayden Constructors, Inc. (Slayden) has been awarded a $25 million construction manager/general contractor (CM/GC) contract by the Joint Water Commission (JWC) for the Water Treatment Plant Expansion Project in Forest Grove, Ore. Preconstruction services began in August with construction scheduled to begin in February 2017, and substantial completion is slated for May 2019.

The water treatment plant expansion will be divided into two separate construction packages. The first will include life-safety improvements for the existing structures, as well as maintenance improvements. The second package will directly follow the first and is designed to increase the facility's water capacity to 85 million gallons per day (mgd), to help meet the growing demands of the Washington County region.

"It is a privilege to have been chosen by the Joint Water Commission to construct the expansion on the Water Treatment Plant in Forest Grove," said Steve Flett of Slayden. "Slayden has extensive knowledge and a strong history of working with local water commissions, like the JWC. Our team is dedicated to the communities where we live and work and are proud to help bring clean drinking water to Washington County."

Slayden is working with JWC and CH2M, a global engineering company, to deliver the project using the CM/GC delivery method. This method will allow the JWC to engage Slayden during the design process to provide constructability input. This approach will help prevent possible interruptions in the daily treatment plant operations, while still being able to meet the agreed upon completion schedule.

"JWC is the primary supplier of drinking water in the area, and it is responsible for treating, transmitting, and storing potable water for more than 365,000 people," said Erika Murphy, project manager for City of Hillsboro; the managing partner for the JWC. "We have assembled a qualified team of professionals to ensure constructability of the Water Treatment Plant Expansion Project and to ultimately improve and increase the capacity of clean drinking water in Washington County."
