상원 패널은 미국 내 항구, 수도, 깨끗한 물 인프라를 지원하기 위해 94억 달러 규모의 법안을 승인했다. 환경공무위원회(Committee on Environment and Public Works)는 19-1 선거를 통해 ‘수자원 개발법(Water Resources Development Act)’의 일환으로 자금을 전달했으며, 이 법안은 물 관련 인프라 사업에 45억 달러 규모를 확인한다.

또한 법안에는 다른 지역의 식수 공급 절충안으로 미시간주 플린트시에 대한 2억2천만 달러의 직접적인 긴급자금 지원이 포함되었었다.

Senate backs $9B water bill, includes $220M for Flint aid

A Senate panel today approved a $9.4 billion bill to support the nation’s ports, waterways and clean water infrastructure. The the Committee on Environment and Public Works passed the funding as part of the Water Resources Development Act in a 19-1 vote. The bill identifies $4.5 billion worth of water-related infrastructure projects.

Also included in the legislation is $220 million in direct emergency assistance for Flint, Mich., and other communities where the drinking water supply is compromised, paid for by cutting funds from the Energy Department’s Advanced Vehicle Manufacturing Technology loan program.

The rest of the bill authorizes $4.9 billion for drinking water and clean water infrastructure over five years, and will next be sent to the full Senate for a vote.

The measure also would assist poor and disadvantaged communities in meeting public health standards, as well as promote innovative technologies to address drought and other critical water resource needs.
